Several species of cockroaches live in the Deming area. These species include brown-banded cockroaches, oriental cockroaches, and German cockroaches. At the same time, each of these species shares similar features of a flat oval-shaped body with six legs and antennas. However, they do have distinct features varying from species to species:

  • Brown-Banded Cockroach- brown with two lighter brown bands, about ½ of an inch long, and males can fly while females cannot.

  • Oriental Cockroach- shiny black to reddish-brown coloring, about 1 inch long, and no flying ability.

  • German Cockroach- light brown to tan with two dark stripes behind their head, ½ to 5/8 of an inch long, can fly but prefer to run.

Cockroaches are quick and are great at hiding, which is why you might not see them right away. Instead, look for these signs to know if you have an active infestation:

  • A damp, unpleasant smell

  • Smear marks along walls where cockroaches are most active

  • Droppings that look like pepper or coffee grounds

  • Egg capsules that are called oothecae or shed skin

  • Damage to food packaging and chew marks on other materials throughout your home

No one in Deming wants cockroaches in their home, which is why area experts want to share the facts you need to know about this pest and how to deal with an infestation or prevent one from happening.

Just How Bad Are Cockroaches?

You probably already know how gross cockroaches are, as they have a reputation that speaks for themselves. However, you may not know that their grossness is dangerous, especially when they infest a property.

Cockroaches pick up pathogens in the places they frequent, such as dumpsters, sewers, and landfills. Once they infest, this pest will spread these pathogens, making people sick with dysentery, cholera, salmonella, leprosy, typhoid fever, giardia, listeriosis, gastroenteritis, and more.

Not only do cockroaches spread diseases, but they can also contaminate food, surfaces, and personal hygiene products. They also trigger allergies and asthma through their droppings, shed skin, eggs, and saliva.

It's safe to say you don't want to risk your health and the health of your family to the dangers of cockroaches. But if you do have an infestation, you should be aware that they are not easy to eliminate.

Getting Rid Of Cockroaches Is Hard, Here's Why!

The reputation of cockroaches extends to how difficult they are to eradicate. Getting rid of cockroaches on your own is nearly impossible because they are increasingly more resistant to traditional pesticides and can live up to a month without food, a week without water, and a week without their heads.

Instead of trying to get rid of cockroaches on your own, you should contact the experts at Snowden Exterminating for total cockroach elimination!
